Jessica Simpson is at last silencing decade-old rumours surrounding her beauty habits.

In a recent interview with ELLE magazine, the 2000s songstress was asked about reports that have swirled since 2014, claiming she spent an average of $1000 per week on tanning services in the height of her career.

The wild rumour first kicked off following a TVNZ article that claimed, per a source, that Simpson had a “Million dollar beauty routine” she adhered to “back in the day.”

In response to questions surrounding these rumours, the singer was quick to put them to bed once and for all.

“No, $1000? Gosh. I’d rather have lain out in the sun,” she said.

The New Zealand media outlet reported that on top of the $1000 spent per week on being bronzed, Simpson also splashed out on $1000 eyelash extensions, bust enhancements and a $230,000 round-the-clock hairstyling team at her beck and call.

The star speculated over where these rumours may have first emerged, saying the demanding beauty standards while on-set filming movie Dukes of Hazzard could have been the culprit.

“I had to be tan and that was a four-month shoot where I was damn near naked the whole time,” she told ELLE.

“The only way to be confident then when shooting,” she added, “was to spray it, and do body makeup. But I also didn’t want it to be too orange, so I had to have a base tan. It was all thought out.”

While Simpson admits to being a sucker for a good tan, her awareness surrounding sun health has driven her to take a different approach.

“Nowadays, I spray my kids [with sunscreen] when they go down to the park and am always putting it on myself too … I definitely turned it around not just because of ageing, but because there are lots of hazards to it.”

These comments come months after Simpson’s music comeback and high-profile split from former NFL star Eric Johnson.

Speaking about her experience as a newly-single woman for the first time in 10 years, she revealed she has been “having fun”.

“When you’re newly separated… I feel like younger guys kinda like the confidence of an older women, I’m discovering,” she added, while on the red carpet of All’s Fair.
