Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer opined that RCB captain Rajat Patidar has been performing very well in the IPL, and he has the calibre to feature across all three formats of the game and should not be ignored for even Test cricket.

Wasim Jaffer went on to shock all with his opinion as he suggested that RCB skipper Rajat Patidar could perform well in the upcoming games, as he should not be ignored in Test cricket. He is a special performer in the competition.

“He is a player who is capable of playing all three formats” – Wasim Jaffer’s massive praise for RCB skipper

Following Rajat Patidar’s spectacular innings against Rajasthan Royals, that too under tough conditions when wickets kept falling from the other end. He impressed all with a spectacular knock of 63 runs off just 40 balls.

Speaking during a discussion on his YouTube channel, Jaffer noted that Patidar has the temperament and technique to represent India across all formats of the game. He could not make the most of the opportunities despite his splendid roles for RCB.

He said, “He is a player who is capable of playing all three formats because he has the technique, temperament, and shots. It is just about things clicking at the international level. So if he performs well and scores runs in this IPL, he will definitely put his name forward.

“Even in Test cricket, I feel he should not be ignored because he has the technique and the ability to play that format. It is unfortunate that he got out and did not score runs in the chances he got, but he has the game to succeed at the international level.”

“It is unfortunate that he has not been able to score runs in Test cricket,” Wasim Jaffer said on Rajat Patidar’s red-ball debut

The former Indian Test batter went on to remember the time when the RCB skipper was picked for the Indian side. But he recalled that Rajat Patidar had made his debut for India against England back in 2024.

The 32-year-old cricketer from Madhya Pradesh had then missed out on a promising performance in that series. After three matches, he could not manage more than 63 runs in 6 innings, averaging just 10.50.

“It is unfortunate that he has not been able to score runs in Test cricket, although he did get a very good opportunity in India. I was a bit surprised because in that series we saw a lot of soft dismissals, and it was a great chance that he couldn’t fully grab,” said Jaffer.

He continued, “I myself was surprised because I had hopes that, the way he plays, he would score runs. He has that ability.”

“The way he was hitting sixes, it felt like he could hit every delivery” – Wasim Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer noted that Rajat Patidar has been in very good form after the spectacular knock against the Rajasthan Royals. In three games, the RCB skipper has managed to score 142 runs, averaging 71 and striking at 200, including a half-century.

“Rajat Patidar is looking in good form. The way he hits sixes, as we know, it feels like his form is coming back. The way he was hitting sixes, it felt like he could hit every delivery.

“So those are positive signs, without a doubt. RCB have lost their first match, so there is no need to worry too much, but there are a few missing pieces that they will need to fix,” said Wasim Jaffer in the same discussion.
