The Detroit Red Wings Made a Big Offer to Simon Edvinsson, But They’ll Need to go Higher
Jamison Coyle: “Elliotte. I want to ask you if you were a fan of the Detroit Red Wings and you were attending that game, what are you thinking? Like, are you booing for Dylan Larkin? Are you cheering when he takes the ice? Because we saw the emotional roller coaster for his season debut the other night-the boos, the cheers, the first star. So, if you’re a fan tonight, how do you approach it?”
Elliotte Friedman: “You know what? Right now, I’m good with him because, number one, he showed up to play, and like when he got hurt, and it was announced, I remember when I tweeted out that the Red Wings announced that Larkin was off the ice due to an injury. There were people calling him a faker. There were people saying it’s not true. Sure, injury in quotation marks, and it was legit.
NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers, and the Detroit Red Wings
And he showed up to play the other night. And not only did he get the goal and the assist, but he found himself in the middle of a scrub. He almost got a Gordie Howe hat trick to help defend his teammates. So you know what? I think if he comes and he gives a good effort, then I’m good with that.
Also, too, like the Red Wings as an organization, they’ve got some battling to do here. They’ve got a little bit of dysfunction, and I think if I’m a fan, I want to see them sorted out, as much as I’m annoyed at Larkin too.”
Mike Rupp: “Elliotte, just staying with this. Is there any latest on Larkin’s situation and (Simon) Edvinsson?”
Friedman: “So Larkin, not so much. I think it’s still just a situation where they’re trying to see if there’s a trade situation that fits for them. I’ll tell you one thing. I’m going to be curious about them going tomorrow night into Montreal, and I expect those fans to roll out the red carpet for him. If I’m going to be, they’re going to be cheering for him in a big way. He might be the visiting player this year, who gets the most cheers in a game out of anybody who goes into Montreal this season. But Larkin, though, last I heard, it was quiet.
Simon Edvinsson and Dylan Larkin Trades Could Reshape the Detroit Red Wings
Edvinsson. It was last Saturday night, the news got out, and the, the number one thing I’m hearing is that the Red Wings want to sign him. They’re absolutely serious about wanting to sign him, and I think they understand that he’s frustrated. I think they understand he’s upset, and we’ll see if that changes at all.
He has until December 1 to sign, or he can’t play this year. Right now, he’s like, no, I don’t want to sign with the Red Wings, or at least the last I checked; I’ll check again tomorrow (Saturday). But the Red Wings want to make this work as long as there’s a glimmer of hope that they feel they can make this work.
Could Alex DeBrincat Be Next Detroit Red Wings Player Wanting Out?
I think they have been contacted by teams, and also don’t forget, because Edvinsson’s a free agent, other people are allowed to call him. There’s no tampering here. People are allowed to talk to him. I’ve heard the Detroit ask if it gets to that point is very high, but they’ve made very clear their goal is to sign him.
And someone did explain to me that Shawn Horcoff‘s done a lot of work with Edvinsson over the years, and he sees the value of the player, and he wants to keep.”
