Dave Pagnotta of TSN Radio in Montreal was asked about the situation in Minnesota: does Quinn Hughes believe he can win there or elsewhere?

Host: “Now, Dave, when it comes to Quinn Hughes specifically, when taking a look at the two potential situations, either New Jersey or Minnesota, what do you view as the more favorable, the more favorable one, the one where he could win?”
Dave Pagnotta: “I think you add a center to that mix, and they’ve been trying. Minnesota’s been trying to add a center to that mix going back to last season. Even after the Hughes acquisition. You stabilize that, and I don’t have to tell you guys, looking for another center. The Wild aren’t the only team, but what happens with that? What does that look like? What’s the rest of the team look like?
(Kirill) Kaprizov. How’s the goaltending going to kind of shape itself out? Once they’re fully healthy, who’s going to take the reins? I think there is. You look at that. You look at the potential of maybe a little bit of a regression from the Stars. What’s happening with the Avs? I think the Wild are right there to compete and to pounce.
Maybe not this year, but maybe next year or within the foreseeable future. This team in the next two, three years feels that they’ve got a Stanley Cup under themselves. Does Quinn feel the same way? If he does, then it’s a matter of just finding what that longevity is and getting the right deal done. If he’s going to get a contract around what Cale Makar had financially, the dollars are going to be there for him.
It’s just a matter of the term and everything that Bill Guerin has been saying. Seems to be positive enough, and there doesn’t seem to be any, like what Bill Guerin has talked about, and others have, there hasn’t been any stress in any of his messaging to the extent of we’re getting to a point here where we’re starting to be a little bit concerned.
I don’t think there’s that concern there, not yet anyway, which leads me to believe that just a matter of Quinn you tell us when you’re ready, we’ve got the documentation set to go.”
NHLRumors.com Note: Quinn Hughes will do things when he is ready. We know the outside element of the brother factor. Though he has said he will not sacrifice anything to play with them. However, it is interesting how long these negotiations have been going on.
From the start, it always felt like Quinn Hughes was going to stay in Minnesota because of how he praised Bill Guerin and dropped hints during this process that his GM is a riverboat gambler, always looking to improve the club.
Lots of questions surrounding Quinn Hughes and the Minnesota Wild
Quinn Hughes is definitely taking a wait-and-see approach, even though the owner is confident it will get done. But if he does sign with the Wild, it will be a short-term deal in and around the Cale Makar number of $20.4 million a season.
