Police arrested at least 30 people including actors and politicians as they protested outside United Nations headquarters on Thursday against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of his speech at the General Assembly.Oscar-winning actor Susan Sarandon, Emmy winner Hannah Einbinder, Democratic congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier and New York City council member Chi Osse were among those arrested.Photos and videos doing the rounds online see the 79-year-old actress’ hands been tied with zip ties and being taken away. She was among dozens who were detained as NYPD cops worked to clear First Avenue ahead of the speech to the UN General Assembly.As per the Daily Mail, Sarandon’s arrest by NYPD officers, comes three years after she found herself behind bars after attending a protest at the New York state Capitol in Albany. The actress was also famously ‘canceled’ over her Pro-Palestine comments in 2023 and allegedly blacklisted from Hollywood over her comments.Meanwhile, ‘Hacks’ actress Hannah Einbinder – who has also famously been a vocal supporter of Palestine – was also among those reportedly taken into custody. Both Sarandon and Einbinder, could be seen wearing white T-Shirts which read: ‘fund people not bombs.’Comedian and rising actor Caleb Hearon, 31, was also seen with police officers in addition to numerous New York City council members.As per reports, ‘Sex and the City’ star Cynthia Nixon, was also in attendance at the protest, but Daily Mail reported that she was not among those who were arrested.The rally was organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, a Jewish activist group that supports Palestinians. Around 200 people gathered outside the United Nations in identical white T-shirts with printed slogans “Fund people not bombs,” “No war” and “Free Palestine.”The group blocked traffic, and police ordered them to leave through loudspeakers. Some people moved to the sidewalks, but the core group of protesters remained seated on the pavement and continued chanting anti-Netanyahu slogans as police officers, who arrived on bicycles, surrounded them.One by one officers pulled protesters from the group, tied their hands behind their backs with zip ties and escorted them to police buses. The activists kept chanting “Netanyahu go to hell” outside the buses.
