Training camp is two weeks away. Will Connor Hellebuyck be moved by then?

Daily Faceoff: Will Connor Hellebuyck be a Winnipeg Jet when training camp opens in a couple of weeks? Jeff Marek doesn’t think so.

Jason Gregor: “And my understanding is Hellebuyck has a much, now, it’s not like it’s the whole league, but he has a much longer list right now than Dylan Larkin does with Detroit. Although Detroit doesn’t have a GM, so who’s making a trade anyway?”

Marek: “Who’s making the trade?”

Washington Capitals Won the Offseason But Will It Translate into Success?

Gregor: “Yeah. So it will be interesting to see. So if I had to give it to you right now, Jeff, training camp starts on September 15th. And I hope Pat this wasn’t his question because he’ll be pissed at me if it was. But I’m like, if I had to give you an over/under on, you know, Hellebuyck’s a Jet on September 14th, are you taking yes or no?”

Marek: “I’m taking no. I’m taking no for Connor Hellebuyck, and, and yeah, and, and and here’s why. I think that there is a, as you mentioned, a wider marketplace for Connor Hellebuyck. I think Kevin Chevaldayoff can pit more teams against one another to raise the price for Connor Hellebuyck.

Knowing full well that when you trade for a goaltender, I know fans often feel like the price is underwhelming.  But here we have someone that’s won like you know all the individual trophies. He hasn’t won the Stanley Cup yet, but, like, Gold Medal, Hart, Vezinas, etc., etc., etc.

I know the playoff performances haven’t, you know, have left something to be desired, but nonetheless, I think there is a vibrant market for him. As you mentioned with Dylan Larkin, that focus is very narrow and is tougher deal to make.

And also, here’s another thing to consider: I don’t think that Winnipeg, I don’t think that Winnipeg wants to let happen, what’ll happen in this building if they start the season with Connor Hellebuyck. That’s another part of this one. This is a risk for Hellebuyck to go public with this.

Because you know how fans are going to be on Dylan Larkin if he starts, and I’m of the mind that Dylan Larkin at this point needs to play his way into a trade. Like he’s got to go to camp, and he’s got to start the season with the Red Wings and show. That is going to be an ugly atmosphere at Joe Louis or at, at Little Cea, said Joe Lewis, at the oh, at the Olympia … at at Little Caesars.

That is going to be an ugly atmosphere, and I don’t think Winnipeg wants that in their building. I really don’t. I don’t think they want that type of animosity towards someone that’s been so good to the organization for so long. That’s why I think it still might take a while here to, watch it’ll be done tomorrow, but I do expect him to be traded. Yes, I do.”

NHL Rumors: Will Connor Hellebuyck be on the Winnipeg Jets to Start the Season?

Gregor: “I would agree with you on Hellebuyck, but no, I, I would have taken that he’ll be dealt before then. I think they find a way, and I think there’s teams that are interested for sure.”
