BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla comments on India vs Pakistan U-Turn: The India vs Pakistan 2026 T20 World Cup match is on after the latter decided to withdraw their stance of not playing against their arch rivals in the major tournament. BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, while speaking with ANI, has shared his views after Pakistan finally agreed to play the marquee match of the ICC event.

On Pakistan to play against India at the T20 cricket World Cup, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla says, “I am delighted to see the outcome of the deliberations initiated by ICC representative, supervised by the ICC Chairman and the representatives who had gone to Lahore to talk to Pakistan Cricket Board as well as Bangladesh Cricket Board.”

“It’s a good solution, an amicable solution which has been found to give priority to cricket’s importance in the game. This is what has been done. So all kudos to ICC for taking this initiative, resolving the whole issue and bringing cricket back to the forefront. This is a big achievement as far as ICC is concerned.”

Rajeev Shukla also thanked the ICC for becoming the mediator, as ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja was working as the mediator for the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board to make the match happen, keeping in mind the losses that the cricket fraternity would suffer if the match did not occur.
Shukla said, “So I would like to thank ICC for taking this initiative and bringing Pakistan to the table, ultimately deciding for Pakistan to play in the Colombo match. It’s good news for all of us and the scheduled match for 15th February in Colombo will take place. Pakistan will also play. So now this World Cup will also be a big success story.”
Rajeev Shukla finally concluded saying, “Bangladesh’s feelings have also been assaged as far as these negotiations are concerned, and some relief has been given to their board, and they are also happy. In fact, they have praised ICC for its efforts. It’s a win-win situation for everybody and I’m happy that the match would take place and World Cup will be a successful event.”
India vs Pakistan always has off-field drama
India vs Pakistan is the main event in any ICC event, as it generates double the revenue of any other game. The ICC and hosts gain from the gate sales, sponsorships, and ticket sales as well. So it would have been a huge loss if the match did not take place on the 15th February, at the R Premedasa Stadium, Colombo.
Pakistan and India have won their respective opening games. The Men in Green will take the field today against the USA, who nearly made an upset against the defending champions in their first match.
