Is there a path where Dylan Larkin remains with the Detroit Red Wings?
The Sheet with Jeff Marek: Max Bultman, when asked if there a path for Dylan Larkin to remain with the Detroit Red Wings. They would need to be competitive, and have they done enough?
Marek: “Dylan Larkin, is there a path back for Dylan Larkin at this point, now that bluntly, Yzerman’s out of the way?
Bultman: “I would say more than there was before, but I think a lot of it still depends so much on who is the new person and what kind of vision do they want to sell. You know, this offseason wasn’t all that eventful. Patrick Kane goes out. I mean, it’s been very eventful. But in terms of the roster transaction so far, Patrick Kane goes out. Viktor Arvidsson comes in. You’re kind of in the same place you were.

And oh by the way, Florida’s gotten way better and healthier. Washington’s gotten way better. I think New Jersey is going to be a really a team to be reckoned with next year. Like, are the Red Wings the 11th, 12th? Like, where do you see them in the East right now?
And if, if you’re a new GM coming in, I think if, if you were going to try to sell Dylan Larkin on staying, it has to probably be predicated on getting competitive. And I wonder if a new GM just looks at that and says, ‘Like, is that really realistic?’
And that’s before you get into all the stuff with the fans, right? I mean, you’ve, you’ve seen that, sure. Like, fans are not taking this well. I don’t think it’s going to be a warm welcome back.
NHLRumors.com note: The Red Wings finished sixth in the Atlantic Division last season, ahead of the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs, who will both be better this season. The Buffalo Sabres, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Montreal Canadiens will be looking to repeat as the top three.
The Ottawa Senators traded their captain, Brady Tkachuk, and are still looking for a top-six forward and a defenseman, so it may be difficult to repeat their 99 points from last season. And then there’s the Boston Bruins, who may have surprised some with the 45 wins and 100-point season.

Throw in, as Bultman noted, the improved Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils in the Metro, and the East is going to be really competitive.
Things have been quiet with regards to their GM hunt, but you would think things are going to start to pick up on that real soon as we enter August.
