On the latest edition of 32 Thoughts Podcast Don’t Your Shirt In with Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas, Friedman notes that Dylan Larkin has a bigger trade list than first reported. However, he still wants to go to US teams where he thinks he can win.

Kyle Bukauskas: The two other RFAs, (Simon) Edvinsson and (Alexander) Nikishin. Anything new with either?
Elliotte Friedman: “Can we do (Dylan) Larkin first?
Bukauskas: “Sure.”
Friedman: “Okay, so he’s not an RFA. One of the things I’ve heard about Larkin is that there are more teams that he’s willing to go to than have been reported, and I’m just as asleep at the wheel as everybody else is on this one. But I don’t think, initially, it was reported as three, and that was Vegas, Minnesota, and Florida. I think it’s more now.

Now, it’s not like 25, but I think it’s more than 3. And I think some of the other teams that are there are Colorado, Washington, and I suspect, in case people didn’t know them already, Dallas and Tampa. So, I don’t know how big that list is, but it’s bigger than what’s been reported. I think it’s somewhere around eight. So that’s where that is right now.
That’s my Larkin update. And I also say I don’t think it’s Canada. I think it’s still the U.S. But I have heard from several places now that the number of teams he’s willing to go to is larger than has been reported at this time, and it’s obviously teams he thinks can win.”
So, given what we know from Friedman’s latest update, it begs the question: when will a trade happen? On the latest edition of The Chris Johnston Show, CJ believes a trade could happen later in the season, but for now he is still a member of the Detroit Red Wings.
“Larkin started skating with the Red Wings in the last day, and is working his way back to playing. Still believe he’s likely moved at some point this season, but we’re not there yet. And I don’t expect that to change, certainly in the very near term.”
NHLRumors.com Note: The story has always been that Dylan Larkin wants to go win. Now the Detroit Red Wings and Larkin are keeping things internal, but it is a good sign that more teams are on the list. However, everyone knows Larkin wants to go to Minnesota and play alongside Quinn Hughes. These USA players who won together want to win together in the NHL.
Are some of these teams decoys? Probably, but to go up against contending teams like Washington, Vegas, Colorado, Tampa Bay, Florida, Minnesota, and Dallas, another team will need to be involved. Not to mention, Colorado and Florida really don’t need second-line centers.
Larkin is stuck in the trade portal. He has to play for the Red Wings right now until a team steps up and gives Detroit what they want. And what Detroit wants is rostered players to keep them competitive. Not to mention, if Larkin had Montreal on his trade list, this is over and done with already.
