Jason Robertson will once again be a priority for the Dallas Stars
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: The Dallas Stars signed winger Jason Robertson to a one year, $12 million deal, as they couldn’t reach a long-term number. Robertson turned down a sign-and-trade with the Seattle Kraken that would have included an eight-year, $125 million ($15.625 million cap hit) offer.
Robertson isn’t eligible for an extension until January 1st, 2027, and it will be a priority for Stars GM Jim Nill.
“Yeah, we’ve got an idea,” Nill said. “He’s a priority for us. We also have to field a team (under the salary cap). So all those things come into play. Hopefully we can agree to something. That’s the plan.”
He’ll be a UFA after this season. If the Stars don’t have him extended by the trade deadline, it’s hard to see them trading him given their Stanley Cup aspirations. If they were to look at trading him, it’s hard to see them getting equal value back.

A two-year extension in the future for Drew Doughty and the Los Angeles Kings?
John Hoven of Mayor’s Manor: Drew Doughty would love to be the next captain of the Los Angeles Kings, but the 37-year is entering the final year of his contract. During their exit meetings last April, Doughty said he wants to retire in a Kings jersey. He knows he didn’t have a good year last year and plans on bouncing back.
Kings GM Ken Holland said before free agency opened last year that they weren’t going to extend him right away and will see how things go in the 2026-27 season.
“He’s 37 years old; I don’t want to underpay him, and I don’t want to overpay him,” remarked LA’s GM. “It’s not like I’m worried that he’s going to hit the open market and he’s going to leave. So, it’s an opportunity to play the season. And at the appropriate time — whether it’s during the season or at the end of the season — he and I will sit down and talk about where we’re going.”

An extension will likely eventually come, and expects the sides to agree to a deal before February 1st, and to be a two-year deal at around $7 million a season.
