Could the Toronto Maple Leafs look at doing something real big if they wanted to make a big change?
The Leafs Nation: Mike Rupp on what if the Toronto Maple Leafs looked at making a real change, and considered moving Auston Matthews or William Nylander. You don’t have to trade them, but if you wanted to make a real change, those are two that would do it.
Nick Alberga: “Let’s say you’re Chayka, or you’re Sundin. You take over this job, are you open to pretty much anything that includes, you know, guys like Matthews and Nylander in that conversation, potentially trade them?
Rupp: “I think so. I mean, everything’s going to be based off of what you can get. I was kind of having a fun little game here, a little while back, I was talking to Andy Petrillo, was working with her the one night. And I said, ‘Hey Andy, let’s talk about your Leafs for a second.’ I’m like, ‘what would happen if, I don’t know, let’s just say, in a world where, I don’t know, the Minnesota Wild. They need a centerman; they come to get Auston Matthews. Now they asked for, or they offer Matt Boldy straight up, what would you do?

And I asked a couple of Leafs fans this, and there like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t know.’ And I’m like, I think you should take it. I know he’s not a center, but like, what Matt boldy is starting to turn into as a player.
Like, I, I think there’s something, there’s something here where I don’t think you have to trade Auston. I don’t think you have to trade Willy. But I, you talk about making real changes with this group. I mean, those are the guys that are going to do it.
And so I just don’t, I don’t know, with both of them on the team, and the way that all those things I talked about before. I just, I just don’t know if there’s too much passiveness on this team. And then you may have to take a step back to take a step forward. So, yeah, I don’t know. I mean, when you want change, sometimes you got to look at the players that are worth the most or valued the most to get change. And that’s kind of where I’m at with those guys.
