Real Madrid and Manchester City started their UEFA Champions League campaign in winning fashion. Los Blancos edged Inter Milan 2-1, while the Citizens beat FC Porto 2-0 in Portugal.

Madrid Beat Inter at Santiago Bernabéu

After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Real Betis in La Liga, Jose Mourinho’s men looked to make amends as they hosted Inter. However, it was far from a comfortable match for the home team as the Nerazzurri put on a strong display.

Nevertheless, despite Inter‘s strong start, it was Madrid that got themselves ahead through Kylian Mbappe on 14 minutes. Los Blancos doubled their lead in the 23rd minute from Federico Valverde’s effort, after a blunder from Josef Martinez in goal.

Madrid’s failure to convert their chances almost cost them, as Inter pulled one back on 77 minutes through Carlos Augusto. However, Mourinho’s side were able to hold their slender lead until the final whistle was blown.

Haaland Secured Man City’s Win Over Porto

Meanwhile, starting their new adventure in the UCL under Enzo Maresca, the Citizens also grabbed an important victory. City managed to beat Porto 2-0, with both goals netted by their star striker, Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian international opened his account early in the second half, before securing his brace in the 91st minute. That victory gave more confidence to Man City as they start their new life after Pep Guardiola.
