Naomi Watts’ Outfit Blueprint

Welcome to The Blueprint, where we break down the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and build them back up, piece by piece.

Oh, how I just adore Naomi Watts’ style!

Last September, the 56-year-old actress stepped out in a free-flowing skirt, and some square-toe ankle boots that weren’t exactly made for — but are still perfect for — walking her dog in New York City.

However, the real star of the show was her sumptuous Lands’ End cashmere sweater. It seems light enough for those late spring days where the temperatures are on the rise, and it has a streamlined and sleek silhouette (unlike so many boxy cardigans I’ve fallen victim to). It also wasn’t cropped — which, these days, feels like a real rarity. Keep scrolling for pieces from Quince, Gap, and other brands to recreate Watts’ polished street style.

The only thing I don’t love about Watts’ blanket-soft sweater is the price. It costs $200 even without the monogramming hers had, and I just can’t, in good conscience, spend that much on a single sweater. Plus, the camel option she had on is no longer available. This Quince topper, on the other hand? I have no qualms about.

It’s practically the same sweater. The color is also right on the money, and it’s a whole $130 less than Watts’. It’s made from 100 percent Mongolian cashmere that shoppers say is “luxuriously soft,” so there’s no skimping on quality.

And with that extra $130 I’m saving, I can get a skirt to match, too. This Quince skirt has an A-line silhouette that’s not going to cling to the areas I’m trying to cover — nor will it make my legs all hot and sweaty thanks to its breathable cotton fabric. It is indeed a maxi skirt, but it’s slightly shorter, so I can show off my boots (more on that below!) and avoid its hems getting wet from puddles left by spring showers.

Watts’ boots are too cute to resist copying. The color is like a burgundy-brown chameleon that could be either, and certainly looks nice regardless. The block heel is also manageable for everyday wear, while the ankle-high shaft means they won't interfere with my pant legs. What’s more, the full-length zippers make them a whole lot easier to put on — I don’t want to play tug-of-war with my shoes!
