Nazem Kadri trade talk picked up before the trade freeze
The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston and Julian McKenzie on speculation surrounding Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri picking up just before the Olympic trade freeze. It’s something to watch when the trade freeze closes.

Johnston: “So yeah, Calgary is going to be selling. I mean, I can remember I had him. I’ve had …”
McKenzie: “So you had Blake Coleman in your top five. He might have been third on your big board. Nazen Kadri is also in your top 10.”

Johnston: “Since, it’s so funny, like the board went out like a day and a half ago. But, you know, I’m having ongoing conversations. I’ve heard, actually, there was some action picked up around Nazem Kadri right before, in the last few days before the trade freeze kicked in.
So I think that’s something to watch when we get back. But it sounds like multiple teams have interest there. You know, the biggest issue with Kadri is he’s got three more years on his contract. So there’s, there’s definitely some risk attached to making a trade like that, just not knowing how he’s going to age. You know. And he struggled a bit, to be fair, in the last, you know, six weeks or so with his game.
But I just think, unique player, like the competitive fire in him. You know, he had a really strong season offensively last year.
McKenzie: “Yes, he did.”
Johnston: “And you know, the teams bringing him in, I don’t think they would be as fixated on the offense as some of the other things he can bring to the lineup.
So, yeah, there’s definitely been talks with Montreal. I don’t know if the fit is quite as seamless for the Canadians end of that because of the extra time left on the deal, and also they made the Phillip Danault deal earlier in the season.
So, you know, but you know, teams of Colorado have been around there. I think Dallas has looked at both Coleman and Kadri.
