Jonny Lazerus: “Do you now expect, like, the Capitals to be even more active, like at the deadline, or trying to bring in pieces to go, like everything chips in the middle of the table with Ovi in his last ride?”

Pagnotta: “Well, I think even before they knew that this was going to be his last ride, that this was going to be a season that they were going as all in as they could, based on just what happened in the off season with all their additions. Excuse me, with a lot of the, the add-ons, getting Alex Tuch to start things off, and then, you know, you sign Boone Jenner, you trade for (Jordan) Kyrou. This is a team that really wanted to stack itself going into this season. And felt that if they made some of these moves, they’d be able to compete for not just tops in the Metro, but compete for the Stanley Cup.

So I think if there’s an opportunity for them to further add to this group and further enhance their chances at competing for a Stanley Cup. They feel their depth on D is good. They, they love their goaltending, and as I said, they’re stacked up front, depth-wise, especially.

So, you know, for this team with, and it’s a good blend. It’s a good blend of veteran presence and, you know, young rising stars. You have (Ryan) Leonard, you have (Cole) Hutson, you have the Proitras Brothers, along with everybody else on that team. There’s a lot of confidence going through that room.

And if, you know, Ovi’s last year or not, before they even knew that they were, they were poised to make a run or or at least you know take a shot at it. And I think this, this certainly enhances that to a degree. But I think the mission coming into this season, regardless of Ovi’s decision was going to be, let’s go get ourselves another Stanley Cup for this organization.

NHL Rumors: Panthers, Red Wings, Flames, and Does Hellebuyck’s Price Change?

And now with Ovi officially saying that this is his last NHL year, I mean, again, if there’s an opportunity for this team to further bolster their chances, they’re going to take it. Probably later on in the season, closer to deadline. But you know, Chris Patrick and company are going to keep an eye on the market for sure.”
