Jameson Coyle: “What is the latest up there on the goaltending situation with Connor Hellebuyck, and any potential rumors you might be hearing right now?”

Friedman: “Well, look, I just think that number one, that I think people were wondering if Hellebuyck would show up at the start of the season because then it would be a situation where he’d be losing money. I think the answer was always going to be no, and he’s stuck to that at this point in time. It’s a no.

Could the Florida Panthers Turn to Dylan Larkin if Aleksander Barkov is out Long-Term

You know, I, I think the biggest thing we’re all trying to determine here, and this could be figured out over the first couple games of the season is, they claimed a goalie off waivers from the Capitals this week, Clay Stevenson. And Clay Stevenson deserves a chance to show he can play.

And if he and Stuart Skinner can give Winnipeg some goaltending at the start of the year, like Winnipeg’s made it very clear, it wanted a goaltender in return for any deal for Hellebuyck. But if Stevenson comes in and him and Skinner are good, then will that change the dynamic? Could that break the logjam? I think we’re all wondering about that.

You know, basically Winnipeg has made it very clear they haven’t gotten anything that they would want to make a deal for. I think the closest they came was Buffalo at the draft. And that one was kind of a challenge because Winnipeg wanted the fourth overall pick from Buffalo, but they didn’t want to give the eighth one back. (Ukko-Pekka) Luukkanen now, we believe, has Winnipeg on his no-trade list, so he’s not available to them.

You know, as as far as it stands, Winnipeg has been adamant that there’s nothing that made them think. And this is an existential thing for them guys because they’re worried if, if it doesn’t go well and they do deal Hellebuyck and the deal isn’t a good one, they could have more players coming their way and asking out. We’ve seen what’s happened around the league.

Should the Montreal Canadiens be Interested in Mark Scheifele?

So I just think that Winnipeg is like, no, we’re not doing it unless we get a deal we want. And as far as it stands right now, as I do this, I don’t believe that there’s a deal that they want.”
