Three players the Florida Panthers could lose on waivers
Julian Gaudio of The Hockey News: Training camps will be opening up this week, and soon after, players will begin to get cut from the main roster. Some of them will no longer be waiver-eligible and will need to pass through waivers to be sent to the AHL. A look at three Florida Panthers who might be put on waivers and potentially claimed.
Cole Reinhardt – Left Wing – The Panthers claimed the 26-year-old off waivers last season and played in their bottom six. They’re now healthy, and he will be battling for one of the last forward positions. There’s a good chance he’d get claimed if put on waivers.
Donovan Sebrango – Defense – Injuries got him more playing time last season, and he earned a contract extension. The Panthers signed Radko Gudas this offseason, and might bump Sebrango from the roster.
Tobias Bjornfot – Defense – The 25-year-old has filled in for injuries the past few years. Became a leader and important part of their AHL blue line, which may increase the likelihood of being claimed if they try to send him down.

The Carolina Hurricanes have some internal options if they trade Alexander Nikishin, including rookie Charles Alexis Legault
Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer: Defenseman Alexander Nikishin remains an unsigned restricted free agent. If the Carolina Hurricanes were to trade Nikishin, they’d need to find a replacement.
Will he hold out if not signed before the start of camp? There’s been offseason speculation that he could be traded, or he could sign a short/bridge deal.
If he’s moved, they have some internal candidates that they have or have traded for: Charles Alexis Legault, Mike Reilly, Juuso Valimaki and Pierre-Olivier Joseph.
Will Connor Hellebuyck start the year with the Winnipeg Jets? Could he holdout?
The 23-year-old, right-handed Legault made his NHL debut last season, getting into 12 games. Coach Rod Brind’Amour also got to watch him play with his son at Quinnipiac and win the 2023 NCAA championship. He missed a chunk of last season after getting into a fight that resulted in his hand being cut, which required surgery.
