The Utah Mammoth’s interest in Simon Edvinsson makes sense
Jason Gregor: Frank Seravalli on Sports 1440 on the Utah Mammoth being interested in Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson: “To hear them connected to Simon Edvinsson makes a lot of sense. You could plug him into the second pair and improve it. They need to upgrade their defence. They are one of the two teams who have the picks, prospects and players who could acquire Edvinsson and Larkin in one trade (MTL is the other).”
The Los Angeles Kings have checked in on Connor Hellebuyck
The Fourth Period: The Los Angeles Kings are winless so far this season, and with $2 million in salary cap space, they don’t have a lot of room to work with. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper has struggled, and he’s in the final year of his contract at a $5.25 million cap hit and a 10-team no-trade clause.
The Kings have been loosely linked to Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. It’s not known if trade talks between the Jets and Kings have increased. Hellebuyck does own a no-movement clause, but is willing to waive it for certain teams.
NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings, and the Montreal Canadiens
The Jets are looking for a deal that involves at least one NHL-calibre forward. Someone like Alex Laferriere may need to be included in a deal involving the Kings, along with prospect(s) and at least one first-round pick.
Frank Seravalli of Sportsnet: The Los Angeles Kings have recently kicked tires on Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. GM Ken Holland has checked on what it could cost to acquire Hellebuyck. If the Kings end up at, say, 1-8-2, including a 2027 first-round pick might be risky. They have been without forwards Kevin Fiala and Mats Zuccarello, so that doesn’t help the 0-3-2 start. Darcy Kuemper and Anton Forsberg have a .848 save percentage through five games, and that needs to be better. Hellebuyck might be able to get the Kings back into playoff contention, but would he want to go there?
Can the Minnesota Wild afford both Jesper Wallstedt and Filip Gustavsson? Teams are wondering about Tyson Foerster
Frank Seravalli of Sportsnet: AFP Analytics projects Jesper Wallstedt‘s next contract at $8 million over five years, but he could get even more. Even if he signs at $8 million, that puts their tandem with Filip Gustavsson at $14.8 million for four more years. If Quinn Hughes comes in around $20 million, can they afford that?
NHL Rumors: Minnesota Wild, Jesper Wallstedt, and Filip Gustavsson
Teams are wondering if they could land Tyson Foerster, but it seems he’s on the list of Philadelphia Flyers untouchables.
