Options for the New York Rangers

Peter Baugh of The Athletic: The New York Rangers will give Dylan Garand a chance to run with it. Joonas Korpisalo will eventually return. The Rangers will give it some time but could make a move later in the season.

Connor Hellebuyck doesn’t make much sense. Detroit Red Wings John Gibson and St. Louis Blues Jordan Binnington are pending UFAs that could be available before the deadline. Both are coming off down years. The Seattle Kraken could make Philipp Grubauer available, another pending UFA.

The Rangers could look at some depth options on the trade route to go along with Korpisalo and Spencer Martin: David Rittich (Devils AHL), Vitek Vanecek (Islanders AHL), Laurent Brossoit (Ducks AHL), Jonas Johansson (Senators AHL) and Eric Comrie (Sharks AHL).

Free agents on the depth option include Matt Murray, Petr Mrazek, and James Reimer.

The Philadelphia Flyers Will Look To Fix From Within For Now

Sportsnet: Frank Seravalli on five cheaper and more realistic trade options for the New York Rangers if they go down that road.

“But I would say that the smart money would be on Chris Drury diving into a pool that looks much more like this, which is guys that have either small contracts like Jordan Binnington and Philip Grubauer that can hold down the fort.

Anthony Stolarz, who could make what you would consider backup money moving forward, because Toronto would surely move off of Stolarz and that contract now. Or if you can see if you can grab one of these reclamation projects in San Montembeault. Yes, banged up now, will be back in a week or so.

NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, and the New York Rangers

One guy that I would spend a lot of time looking at here is actually Lauren Brossoit. He’s signed as the third goalie in Anaheim, who Pat Verbeek has done a really oddly good job of grabbing these third guys. That I think he could, you know, get back to being a solid NHL goalie after missing a year-plus with injury. It’s going to cost you nothing. See if you can give Lauren Brossoit a three-week run or a month-long run to solve your problem off the scrap heap. Does that make any sense?”
