The head of BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE), VVS Laxman on Sunday, August 9, told the media that Virat Kohli is an exemplary professional and sets the bar for himself wherever he goes to play.
Heaping praise on the Indian cricket team superstar batter, Laxman called him an ideal role model for many young cricketers. Virat Kohli, who is now 37, is considered one of the fittest cricketers across the cricket-playing nations.
Virat Kohli is an exemplary professional: VVS Laxman
Throughout his professional cricket career, the Delhi-born has been maintaining a great physique, even after retiring from the T20I and Test cricket formats. At the press meet, the former Team India batter, now the head of the Centre of Excellence, VVS Laxman, mentioned that wherever Virat Kohli goes to play, he meets those standards which he set for himself. Laxman strongly believes that a lot of emerging cricketers emulate the modern-day batting legend.
“I think there is no doubt that Virat is an exemplary professional. And the standards he sets for himself are something which he tries and goes out every time he plays (for) whichever team to meet those standards,” VVS Laxman said.
“And that’s why he is a great role model. And I think a lot of youngsters or players want to emulate him,” he added.
When will Virat Kohli play next for India?
After retiring from Tests and T20Is, Virat is active only in the One Day International format. Ahead of the next ODI World Cup, which will be in 2027, the top-order batter was in brilliant form when he last played for the India National Cricket Team. In a three-match ODI series against England, he scored 65 and 74 runs at Cardiff and Lord’s, respectively.
Currently, he is with the team, as Team India is in Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series. As of now, Virat Kohli is expected to return in Team India colors when the Men in Blue face West Indies for an ODI match in September.
In a recent interview, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chief Richard Gould said that they are considering more Tri-nation ODI series in the next 12 to 16 months. If the Indian cricket team plays an increased number of ODIs, then chances to see Virat in action will increase significantly.
Will Virat Kohli play in the 2027 ODI World Cup?
As the Indian cricket team is preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup, Virat continues to stay in the discussion. Will the former India captain play in the next ODI World Cup? The question has remained for a long time.
Keeping an eye on his performance and, obviously, on his fitness, it can be said that the batter deserves to stay in contention for the team selection for the 2027 ODI World Cup. To confirm a spot in the squad, he may have to carry significant form in the upcoming fixtures as well.
