Steve Kouleas: “But anyway, how about this? Who’s not going to be in the job they have now come April 20th or sometime during the silly season? Any ideas? Any insight?”
NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators Cutting Down GM Candidates
Dave Pagnotta: “Well, I mean, I think here where we are Kooly I think there are going to be a lot of question marks in Toronto about the future of Craig Berube, the future of the staff, and the future of Brad Treliving. If they’re going to go through a bit of a significant, well, a significant shift, not a bit of one, but a significant shift in their deployment of roster next season, you got to make sure the Leafs ownership and Keith Pelley will have to make sure that Treliving is the guy to handle that and handle those discussions.
I haven’t heard too much on that front of them veering in a different direction, and nobody’s really talking. But there are question marks surrounding coaches, and excuse me, the coaching staff and what the Leafs plan on doing in terms of other spots.
We know the success of Columbus and how the season goes. It’s all in “Bones” (Rick Bowness) and his hand, if he wants to stick around beyond that, if they want to keep that relationship going. And it’s worked out pretty well. So we’ll see where that goes.
The LA Kings, depending on their season how things go, they’ve got to decide, is DJ Smith going to be our guy? Or do we look elsewhere to see if there is another opportunity as well?
Same in Jersey. A lot of talk about both the head coach and the GM. Again, on that front, haven’t been given much of an indication to this point, and I’m sure a lot of people are going to want to remain tight-lipped if they are going to consider a change, but they’ve allowed these guys to roll through the deadline and make whatever moves they felt necessary.
NHL Rumors: Are There Management and/or Coaching Changes Coming for the Vancouver Canucks?
So we will probably start to hear that closer to the last week of the season, where you look at some coaches, you look at some GMs, what changes are to be made, and you look at some of the teams based on, being somewhat of a copycat nature. You look at some of the teams that had success this season.
Boston, brand new head coach in the league. Pittsburgh, brand new head coach at that level in the league. Todd McLellan, full season in Detroit. So you go the vet route, if you’re making a coaching change, or you go first timer?
That’s what some teams are probably going to start deciding in the week leading into the end of the season.”
