NHL Rumors: Columbus Blue Jackets, and the New York Rangers

Gord Stellick: “So Dave, Scott and I were just talking about getting off to slow starts, and quite often you never get out of that funk. If that’s the case. Now, Edmonton’s sort of been the one we focused on, and things have gone a lot better since then. But I got to give the New York Rangers credit because talk about eye roll!

Oh my God, they got shut out in the game opener, and that’s all you thought about last year. And that was a classic team that never got going, and they got a lot of new pieces and different pieces. But they found a way to get a very impressive win, not just beyond a goaltender scoring a goal and getting an assist and almost getting another goal. As far as the week ended up being,”

Dave Pagnotta: “Yeah, I mean there are going to be a lot of eyeballs on some of these clubs, especially the New York Rangers. Like for me, I wanted to know how the Rangers were going to start this season. And they’ve got some good pieces that a lot of teams would love to get their hands on, but how is this team going to come out of the gate, and are they going to struggle? Are they going to start to get back on track and reclaim where they anticipated being coming out right now, 3-1?

For the New York Rangers, it is probably as good a start as you could have anticipated. I mean, yeah, okay, sure, you want 4-0, but let’s be realistic. But 3-1, a pretty good start. I know there were a lot of teams that were in the same boat. I’m kind of curious to see how a team like the Rangers were going to perform when they went through a number of changes over the offseason.

NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers, and the Detroit Red Wings

There are players that are on a lot of teams’ radars. Like, what are they going to do with Adam Fox? What are you going to do with (Alexis) Lafreniere, and others? But the stronger this team performs, and the better things go for them, it kind of solidifies their position and where they’re going to be, and obviously, ownership management wants this team to be competitive.

They want this team to be in the picture, and things continue to go well for them; they’re going to align themselves pretty nicely here in that Metro Division.”
