More injury threats for the Australia national cricket team ahead of their Test series against the South Africa national cricket team as Cameron Green and Matt Renshaw received two nasty blows during the third ODI in Potchefstroom on Wednesday. This forced both of them to leave the field.

Green and Renshaw left the Senwes Sport Park ground with pure pain on their faces. Injuries to multiple key players have already thinned the Australian squad to 12 ahead of the final ODI match of the series. If Cameron Green and Matt Renshaw are both found seriously injured, then it will add more pain to the Aussie team management.

Injury threats for Cameron Green and Matt Renshaw

As of now, there is no official statement on the seriousness of the recent blows. Josh Inglis (broken finger), Nathan Ellis (side strain), Jack Edwards (hamstring), and Joel Davies (hamstring) are the players who are already on the sidelines due to different injury reasons.

Yesterday (September 30), while batting in the first innings, Cameron Green got hit in the groin. He seemed to go as he stood up again to face the following delivery.

Only after a couple of deliveries, when he tried to swing his bat hard, Green felt further pain and eventually lost his wicket on that delivery. As he did not bowl a single over in the first and second ODI of the series, he was about to take the ball in the third match. But the injury ruled him out of the remainder of the game, as the pace bowling all-rounder did not return to the field during South Africa’s run chase. Matt Renshaw received a blow in the second innings of the match when South Africa was chasing 323 runs.

The ball hit Matt Renshaw’s wrist

Renshaw was posted at a very close square leg to Adam Zampa at the start of the 14th over when Ryan Ricketlot played a powerful pull shot. The ball, after making contact with the bat, hit the fielder’s right wrist, and Renshaw was instantly in immense pain. At the end of the over, he left the ground and did not return for the remainder of South Africa’s innings.

The rain-threatened match lasted only for 14 more overs after the injury to Matt Renshaw. Australia, however, won the match by 48 runs through the DLS method; their first win on the tour after losing two back-to-back matches to the home side.

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh on the injuries of Cameron Green and Matt Renshaw

After the match, the Australian ODI team skipper Mitchell Marsh talked about the injury threats of Cameron Green and Matt Renshaw. But Marsh had very limited information at that time.

“I haven’t spoken to them yet, but hopefully both are okay. [Green was] locked in the bowl a few overs today. He had a nice build, and it would have been nice for him to have a bowl. But yeah, it wasn’t meant to be, and I’m sure that it won’t affect his prep too much, hopefully,” the skipper said.
