The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad bore witness to a high-octane cricketing spectacle on Sunday, as the Gujarat Titans (GT) secured a breathtaking 4-wicket victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 46th match of the IPL 2026 season. In a contest that swung like a pendulum, GT managed to hold their nerve till the end of the game, successfully chasing down a target of 164 to solidify their standing in the points table.
Jason Holder’s 4-fer dismantles PBKS’ batting line-up in first innings
Winning the toss and electing to bowl, Shubman Gill’s decision was immediately vindicated by his pace battery. The Punjab Kings suffered a catastrophic start, losing Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly for ducks within the first three deliveries of the match, courtesy of a fiery opening spell by Mohammed Siraj (2/28). When Prabhsimran Singh fell to Kagiso Rabada in the powerplay, PBKS were reeling at 35/3.
However, the middle overs belonged entirely to Jason Holder. The towering West Indian all-rounder delivered a masterclass in disciplined seam bowling, finishing with remarkable figures of 4/24 in his 4-over quota. Holder first broke the resistance of Shreyas Iyer (19) and Nehal Wadhera (0) in quick succession, leaving the PBKS middle order in tatters at 47/5.
A spirited counter-attack by Suryansh Shedge, who smashed a rapid 57 off 29 balls (including 4 fours and 4 sixes), and a steady 40 from Marcus Stoinis, briefly threatened to take the game away from GT. Yet, Holder returned to remove the dangerous Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett in the 18th over, effectively halting the momentum. Despite a late cameo from Marco Jansen (20), PBKS finished on 163/9, a total that looked competitive but perhaps 15 runs short given the conditions.
Sai Sudharsan’s composed innings power GT to an emphatic win over PBKS
The chase for Gujarat Titans was far from a walk in the park. Skipper Gill departed early for just 5, but the innings found its anchor in Sai Sudharsan. The young left-hander played a mature and calculated knock of 57 off 41 balls, peppered with five boundaries and a towering six.
Sudharsan found able partners in Jos Buttler (26) and Nishant Sindhu (15), building partnerships that kept the required run rate within reach. After Sudharsan’s dismissal in the 15th over to Vijaykumar Vyshak, the match entered a tense final phase. With the score at 124/4, the veteran Washington Sundar took charge. Sundar’s unbeaten 40 off 23 balls proved to be the clinical edge GT needed.
The drama peaked in the final over bowled by Stoinis. With 12 runs required from the last six balls, and after losing Jason Holder (5) to Arshdeep Singh before the penultimate over, the pressure was immense. Arshad Khan (8*) and Sundar rotated the strike brilliantly, bringing the equation down to 3 runs needed off the 2 balls. Sundar kept his cool, finding the shot to seal the win at 167/6 with just one ball to spare.
