NHL Rumors: Minnesota and Montreal May be the Best Fit for Dylan Larkin
Host: “We’ve been talking about this since, I don’t know, man, maybe June, July. It seems like we’re talking about it forever. Dylan Larkin was the first big name that got out there, and we thought we were going to have ourselves an NHL pretty great frenzy throughout the summer, which we did. Dylan Larkin was the first name out there, and he’s still out there. So there’s no more Hellebuyck to discuss. When do you think that this Larkin deal gets done? If it does get done.”
Jim Biringer: “I think it’s going to get done over the next couple of weeks. I really do. I think Detroit knows. They’ve been scouting Montreal. Kris Draper scouting Montreal again. Detroit was here as well, scouting New Jersey. They’re doing a lot of scouting, seeing what teams have available. They might be moving off their price a little bit.
I know they want a Dylan Larkin-esque center in return. That’s younger. You’re not getting it. It’s hard to find, but it’s time. Like we talked about this a few weeks ago. He’s playing. He’s there. He’s getting money. But he’s got two feet out the door, and he still wants to be traded. The fact of the matter is that his 10-team list came out. Helene St. James released it. Those teams are on the list.
NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings Handling Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson Trade Fronts
I was wondering about New Jersey and Carolina all along, just because the Devils need a center. You can move Jack Hughes to the wing; it gives you depth down the middle. Carolina is always aggressive with Eric Tulsky. They have the pieces now. Both teams still have pieces that they can use to give Detroit what they want.
Yeah, Dawson Mercer is off the list for New Jersey, but they have other pieces that Detroit could want, or Utah, or a bunch of other teams like Washington, Colorado, and of course the same five teams that everybody wants to go to, which is Florida, Minnesota, Dallas, Tampa, and Vegas.
But Minnesota, to me, it all comes down to Quinn Hughes, right? The connection these two guys have. They talk all the time. You know, they have the same agent. Okay, if he’s staying? This deal’s got to get done so he can sign his contract.
But it feels like there’s word and chatter that this thing is going to get resolved sooner rather than later. This isn’t dragging to the trade deadline.”
NHLRumors.com Note: The Detroit Red Wings understand there is no resolution with Dylan Larkin. He has not rescinded his request. It remains status quo, as he is looking for a trade. We saw Hellebuyck put pressure on the Jets to get something done; it feels like the same thing is happening in Detroit with the list coming out.
The New Jersey Devils Could Still be in on Dylan Larkin and Quinn Hughes
While Kevin Cheveldayoff may have gotten his price, he knew Hellebuyck couldn’t be around the team. Maybe the deals were better in the offseason, but Winnipeg made the move. Detroit wants to remain competitive, but the Red Wings are realizing that the second coming of Dylan Larkin isn’t coming back in this trade. The best package is in Montreal, but Larkin has to say yes to going to Canada.
So while Quinn Hughes says the two aren’t related, they are. It will be funny when one happens and then the other. So we will see what happens in Minnesota, as something could be happening there. Again, John Buccigross says he heard something was going to happen in the next 7-10 days; we are closing in on that mark.
Given all the smoke, something is about to break in this logjam in Detroit.
