What is Going on with the Philadelphia Flyers?

Host: “What about a couple of those injured players, though, Dave, and their names being out there in the rumour mills so early in the season? I’m talking, of course, about (Owen) Tippett, and more importantly, (Travis) Konecny, who’s been such a big part of that Philadelphia team for a long, long time now. Now, I know that Montreal, every time there’s a good plaer that’s rumored to be available. Montreal’s name gets thrown out there. I don’t really see the need for Montreal in Konecny, but what do you make of some of the reports surfacing last week?”

Dave Pagnotta: “Yeah, well, I mean, look, when you’re off to a crappy start like that, teams are going to start to call and inquire, and the vultures are going to circle and see if there is somebody primed for the taking, right for the taking, and the picking, so you do your calls and you see what’s out there. And most of the calls Philly’s gotten have been on those two guys, on Tippett and Konecny for the most part.

But unless it’s a move that ultimately makes Philadelphia better in the grand scheme doesn’t necessarily have to be immediate, but in the overall sense, then they’re not going to really consider doing anything involving either of those guys. Let’s see how the season plays out. Maybe things change.

The Philadelphia Flyers Will Look To Fix From Within For Now

You have to keep in mind that even Danny Briere mentioned this in the summer that this was going to be a season of regression that they anticipated, to take a step back. They’re still rebuilding. They’re still going to be growing pains. And if they do regress, let’s not be surprised and let’s not all of a sudden think that the sky is falling.

Now nobody expected that start, but 0-6-3, but you know they got a couple Ws. Teams are going to still call. They’re going to still have their conversations and find ways to try to improve their club overall. And depending on how the season goes, it will dictate what they end up doing. So you know, we’ll certainly keep tabs on.

I don’t think the Flyers are necessarily against the possibility of moving those guys, but again, they’re not just looking to get rid of them by any stretch. They value those players a lot, and unless it’s, as I said, a move that makes them better in the long run. They’re not going to consider anything else.”
