The New Jersey Devils trading for Connor Hellebuyck may not take them out of the running for Dylan Larkin or Quinn Hughes

Daily Faceoff: Even after acquiring Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets, could the New Jersey Devils still be in on Detroit Red Wings Dylan Larkin, and maybe eventually Quinn Hughes?

Tyler Yaremchuk: “Would a deal for New Jersey completely rule them out from trying to trade for Quinn Hughes or Dylan Larkin later in the year? And I guess Jeff will learn if Sonny Mehta is an all-in kind of poker player. But I don’t get the sense that just because they get Connor Hellebuyck, he’d say, ‘Well, that’s my big move. I’m done.’”

Jeff Marek: “No, I don’t. I, I, I don’t think so. I think they would still be in the, in, in the conversation for both. I mean, the, the Quinn Hughes one, I mean, the Quinn Hughes and Dylan Larkin situation almost seems to be tied together, don’t they?

NHL Trade: Connor Hellebuyck Traded to the New Jersey Devils

Dave and I were talking the other day on, on DFO Insider, you know, if, if Minnesota is able to get Dylan Larkin, does that then cement Quinn Hughes re-signing with the Minnesota Wild? Like, I still think that this is Minnesota auditioning for Quinn Hughes. You know, show me that you can have the team here long term.

Because I think, I think part of it too is, I really do think that Quinn is concerned and sensitive about, as much as he wants to play with his brothers, walking in, taking Luke Hughes’s power-play time, or taking a spot, or pushing him down the lineup. Like, that is a reality. As much as say it’s wonderful to have all the brothers together, that is one of the realities that you deal with.

But as far as, you know, does it take them out of a Larkin situation? No, I don’t. Does it take him out of a Quinn Hughes situation? No, I don’t think so either. Honestly, I think that, I think Sunny is, Sunny is showing us what kind of general manager he is here.
