When free agency opened, the New York Islanders only had PTO interest in Patrik Laine
Stefen Rosner and David Kolb of The Elmonters: (mailbag) The New York Islanders did talk to Patrik Laine when free agency opened on July 1st, but believe they were only interested in offering a PTO and not a contract.
Laine would help their power play, and he’s eligible for a low salary and bonus-laden contract, but they Islanders already have a glut of forwards. At this point it doesn’t look like they’d circle back. If Laine doesn’t get a contract that wants, it is possible his agents revisit the Islanders.

Daily Faceoff: David Pagnotta said things are status quo with Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly, and some UFAs will have to remain patient as some teams still have their own business they need to attend too.

Pagnotta: “No, I mean again, the Ducks. Other than the (Cutter) Gauthier thing, I mean, status quo there. Same with Morgan Rielly in Toronto. You know, there’s been some, you know, back and forth and with other teams and whatnot. But no, that seems to be still something that they’re open to. But they’re waiting.
And you know, again, just, just going back to the free agent market, some of the remaining guys, people are being told that hey, other teams still have business to attend. They’re still trying to firm up some of their business. So, you know, we’ll see.

It’s, it’s a little bit at least the start of this week. It’s been quieter on that front, because other teams are trying to, you know, take care of some other business. So, some of these guys may have to wait a little bit longer than they initially anticipated, just because the market has shifted so dramatically since not just July one, July 3rd.
