Offseason questions
Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News: Looking at some offseason questions that remain.
Will the Connor Hellebuyck trade talk pick up soon? The Winnipeg Jets couldn’t work out a deal with the Buffalo Sabres. If Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has the Jets on his no-trade list, a deal between the two seems unlikely. The New Jersey Devils are a team that might be looking at the goalie market.
What will the Detroit Red Wings end up doing with Dylan Larkin? They don’t have a GM at the moment, and didn’t have much success in trade talks when they had one. They need to get a good return for him if they do move him. How will he be perceived if he does return?
NHL Rumors: Does Arber Xhekaj Want to Sign for Less Than Market Value?
Some unfinished stories and speculation
Emily Sadler of Sportsnet: At the beginning of the offseason, it looked like the Winnipeg Jets would be trading goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. As of mid-August, he’s still a Jet and things appear to be quiet. Elliotte Friedman said earlier this month that maybe things will pick up closer to training camp.
The Anaheim Ducks still need to sign RFA forward Cutter Gauthier, the Columbus Blue Jackets the same with RFA forward Adam Fantilli. Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Alexander Nikishin is an unsigned RFA and has had his name in the trade rumor mill.
Jason Robertson is eligible to sign an extension when the calendar flips to January. It will be interesting to see where this ends up. He’s wanted to remain in Dallas, but will he get the money he wants? Will the Stars want to pay it? It’s possible that his time could be coming to an end in Dallas, and he’ll have full controll of where he goes next July 1st as a UFA.
NHL Rumors: Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Vancouver Canucks
The waiting game for Dylan Larkin continues as the Detroit Red Wings search for a GM. He’s like to go to the Minnesota Wild, and they’d like to have him. The Wild also have to contend with the Quinn Hughes situation and lack of extension at this time.
