The cause of death for actor Tommy Lee Jones‘ daughter Victoria Jones has been confirmed, over a month after her death.

The actress died aged 34 on New Year’s Day and was found at the Fairmont San Francisco hotel.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in San Francisco has now revealed, per People, Victoria died due to “toxic effects of cocaine” and ruled the manner of her death an “accident.”

A statement from the San Francisco Fire Department shared with Us Weekly at the time of her death said, “Upon arrival, paramedics from the fire department performed an assessment. The person was declared deceased.

“SFPD and the medical examiner’s office were called to the scene. Scene turned over to SFPD and SF Medical Examiners.”

TMZ, the first media outlet to report the news and confirm Jones’ identity, obtained 911 footage in which law enforcement officers were called to the hotel for a “code 3 for the overdose, colour change.”

Victoria is survived by her father Tommy, 79, mother Kimberlea Cloughley, and her brother Austin Jones.

After her death, her family released a statement thanking those who gave their condolences.

“We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers,” they said,.

“Please respect our privacy during this difficult time. Thank you.”

Victoria was also an actress, even starring in some of her father’s works like Men in Black II and his directorial debut, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

Tommy even recalled having to fire his daughter from the film.

“She had to get up at 5am for her part. One morning, she wouldn’t get out of bed,” he recalled to The New Yorker in a 2006 interview.

“I said, ‘Honey, this is work.’ She wouldn’t budge, so I fired her. Then, without telling me, the production staff went over and woke her and rushed her out to the set just in time.”

She also starred in Sorry, Haters, One Tree Hill and The Homesman.

Tommy reportedly sought a conservatorship for his daughter two years before her untimely New Year’s Day death.

In August 2023, the Oscar-winner filed a petition to establish a temporary conservatorship over Victoria, according to Marin County Superior Court docket entries reviewed by US publications, including People and The San Francisco Chronicle.

The request was quickly approved by a judge and a temporary conservator was appointed for Victoria, who was 31 at the time, People reports.

The San Francisco Chronicle earlier reported that, at the time of the filing, Victoria was being involuntarily held for 14 days at a hospital in Greenbrae, California, for being a danger to herself and others.

The outlet also reported Tommy had requested his daughter be moved to a drug rehabilitation facility following her release from the hospital.

The outlets reported a request to terminate the temporary conservatorship was granted in December 2023.
