It’s not Ivan Miroshnichenko’s fault that he’s the odd man out in Washington

Sammi Silber: Elliotte Friedman reported over the weekend that the Washington Capitals have given forward Ivan Miroshnichenko permission to talk to teams about a potential trade. Capitals coach Spencer Carbery on Miroshnichenko:

“I know I can speak for the coaches: we like him. We have a deep forward group, and when we get healthy, it sort of pushes him out. Which is no fault of his because I felt like, again, he did well in the games that he played. Now, it’s about staying ready (for) that next opportunity. Just take advantage of it, and that hopefully snowballs and turns into 10, 20, 30 games for him because we like what he did in those first 3 games.”

Miroshnichenko’s camp looking for a trade

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast – Heritage and Hellebuyck episode, and the Washington Capitals giving Ivan Miroshnichenko and his camp permission to talk to teams. Will any return be similar to what the Columbus Blue Jackets got for Egor Chinakhov?

Bukauskas: “All right, so Ivan Miroshnichenko, we talked about this a couple weeks ago.”

Friedman: “Yep.”

Bukauskas: “That was more so at that time; there was some interest out there and some teams wondering what are the Capitals’ plan for him? Because you saw a young player with some real upside. It was just tough to crack the lineup, and with your headlines on Saturday night, you’re learning that the Capitals have given the player and his representation permission to seek a trade.”

Friedman: “Yes. Allowed to talk to other teams. I like this player. I do. It’s, it’s kind of just weird timing because if Ovechkin doesn’t come back this year, I don’t even think this is an issue. And even Ovechkin played the lowest of his, on Saturday, played the lowest he ever played, right?

But you know it is an issue. I think there’s quite a bit of interest. I thought, I thought it was fascinating. The Capitals made it very clear they’re not putting them on waivers because they know they’d lose them for zero, and they’re not doing that.

And so somebody compared it to me to the (Egor) Chinakhov trade. He went from Columbus to Pittsburgh for a second and a third, and I’m curious to see if that’s kind of the market. Is that what we’re talking about here? Because he’s a talented player like Chinakhov was.

NHL Rumors: Is Dylan Larkin Next to Be Traded?

This is simply a numbers game. He can play, I think, and we’ll see where this goes. The other thing too is, and actually, somebody said this to me on Sunday, Kyle, is the other thing that could happen here is like Washington just had Dubois miss a bunch of games because he was sick. If somebody gets hurt, this guy could be playing. So we’ll see how long this lasts.”
