Pakistan has announced plans to establish a National Crypto Council dedicated to overseeing cryptocurrency policy and regulation.
According to local news report dated 26 February 2025, “the finance ministry announced it was considering “establishing a National Crypto Council” to adopt emerging digital currencies, in line with global trends.” The country’s proposed National Crypto Council will serve as an advisory body comprising government officials, regulatory authorities, and industry experts.
Pakistan Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb directed relevant stakeholders to formulate a comprehensive framework that ensures security, transparency, regulatory compliance, and economic viability while safeguarding against financial crimes and illicit activities.

The decision to establish the National Crypto Council follows a meeting between Pakistani officials and foreign delegates, including advisors from Donald Trump’s digital asset team.
It is worth noting that until recently, Pakistan’s finance ministry had been opposed to regulating cryptocurrencies, citing concerns over financial risks and misuse.
Aurangzeb also stressed the need for a balanced approach. He called for innovation and investment in digital assets while maintaining strict regulatory oversight in line with international standards.
