Liverpool have completed the signing of Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for €35m (£29.5m) on a five-year deal.
Frimpong, 24, joins the Premier League champions just hours after it was confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold would be joining Real Madrid in time for the Club World Cup.
Los Blancos are reportedly set to pay £10m for the England international just to register him early.
The move comes after Liverpool activated Frimpong’s release clause, with the Dutch right-back seen as a direct replacement for the homegrown star.
Frimpong enjoyed a stellar season at Leverkusen, helping them clinch their first-ever Bundesliga title in 2023-24 and making 53 appearances in all competitions this term as they finished second.
The new signing will compete with Northern Ireland’s Conor Bradley, who recently extended his stay at Anfield by signing a new four-year contract.

Frimpong’s arrival adds further depth to Arne Slot’s squad as they look to maintain their dominance and push for more silverware in Europe.
Frimpong’s journey has seen him develop through the Manchester City youth ranks, before moving to Celtic in 2019 and then to Leverkusen in January 2021.
The wing-back will also join up with a strong Dutch contingent at Liverpool, linking up with Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch.
Speaking for the first time as a Red, he said: “It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer.
“For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’
“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.
“I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.”
