The 33-year-old India National Cricket Team opening batsman KL Rahul displayed an amazing batting performance in the second innings of the Test series opener against the England National Cricket Team.

On Day 4, KL Rahul’s exceptional innings was brought to an end by the 29-year-old England National Cricket Team pacer Brydon Carse on Monday, June 23.

KL Rahul falls for 137 in the 2nd innings

The right-handed opening batsman looked in classy touch in the first Test of the series against the Three Lions and played impressive knocks in both innings.

Although he failed to score big in the first innings, he made up for it by slamming a sensational century in the second innings and put his team in a dominant position in the match.

Rahul looked totally in control during his stay in the middle, and he was not at all troubled by the English bowlers. He also hit some classy cover drives and built important partnerships at Headingley in Leeds.

It looked like he would remain not out till the end of Day 4, but he got out in an unfortunate manner in the 85th over of the innings, which was bowled by Brydon Carse.

On the second ball of the over, Brydon Carse bowled a short of length delivery on a wider line and Rahul tried to play a cut short, but was deceived by the extra bounce.

KL Rahul only managed to get an inside edge, and the ball crashed into his middle stump. The batter hung his head back in frustration after getting out for 137 off 247 balls, with 18 fours.

We’ve got a pretty clear plan as a bowling unit – Brydon Carse

Speaking to the ECB ahead of the start of the play on Day 4, Brydon Carse said that the match is evenly poised. He said:

“Yeah, look, I think both teams are in a pretty even position now. Obviously, over the last two days, we’ve had a very successful two days as a team and we’ve stayed in this game and put ourselves in a good position today. We’re a couple of early wickets and we can really transfer that pressure onto them throughout the day.”

Brydon Carse added that they have got a clear set of plans as a bowling unit and would look to execute them. He said:

“Of course, that’s obviously the cliché, but we know how important it is if we can get a couple of early wickets because we saw in that first innings how I think they got 50 runs for the last seven wickets. So, although it is a good batting wicket, there have started to be a couple of balls that have either bounced a bit or kept a bit low. So, yeah, we’ve got a pretty clear plan as a bowling unit of what we’re going to try and do.”
