    NEED TO KNOW

    • Tim McGraw has been forced to back out of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Last Cowboy Standing event on July 21
    • PBR announced that the musician is recovering from back surgery
    • Cross Canadian Ragweed will perform in his place

Tim McGraw has been forced to back out of a concert in Colorado next month as he recovers from back surgery.

The country superstar was set to perform at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Last Cowboy Standing event on July 21, according to a previous press release. PBR CEO Sean Gleason issued a new statement on Monday, June 23, announcing that country group Cross Canadian Ragweed will perform in his place.

“Cross Canadian Ragweed will step in for Tim McGraw as he recovers from back surgery to open the Last Cowboy Standing Show on July 21 in Fort Collins — and we couldn’t be more thrilled,” the statement said.

“The band is back together and ready to bring the house down in an unforgettable night of world-class music and the greatest bull riding on earth. You won’t want to miss it,” the statement continued. “We’re sending our very best to Tim for a quick recovery and hope to see him at a future PBR event.”

Jon Pardi is still scheduled to perform on July 22, per a concert poster. A rep for McGraw had no comment.

While it is unknown when McGraw underwent surgery, a joint statement from Colorado State University and PBR states it was “recent.”

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to fans who wanted to see Tim McGraw, and we wish Tim the very best in his recovery,” the statement added.

According to the statement, ticket holders have the option to receive a full refund by contacting the Rams Ticket office at 970-491-7267 or by filling out a refund request form at https://app.csurams.com/pbr1refund.

The announcement comes after Deadline reported in January that the performer had exited an untitled Netflix rodeo series due to the need for back surgery.

In May, McGraw gave an update on his health on Tracy Lawrence’s TL’s Road House podcast.

“I can tell you that after double knee replacements and three back surgeries and now a torn rotator cuff and a ruptured disc, all the things that are going on, there were times this year that I thought this might be it,” he said. “This might be time to hang it up.”

The musician said he still works out, but approaches it carefully.

“I can’t move quickly, there’s no turning real quick to do something,” he said. “Everything has to be very intentional; everything that I do has to be very methodical. I have to do cold plunges, I have to do infrared saunas. I have to do massages.”

McGraw released his latest album, Standing Room Only, in August 2023. He recently starred in Paramount+’s 1883, a limited series prequel to Yellowstone.
