West Indies pacer Jayden Seales stole the show on Day 1 of the Bridgetown Test, not just with his sensational bowling but also with a fiery send-off to Australian captain Pat Cummins. Seales, who finished with a brilliant five-wicket haul, delivered the final blow to a struggling Australian innings by dismissing Cummins for a rapid 28 off 18 balls, an innings that briefly lifted Australia from complete embarrassment.

Jayden Seales celebrates Pat Cummins’ wicket with an intense send-off to the dressing room

Cummins, arriving with the scoreboard in shambles, launched a counterattack that included three boundaries and a six, striking at an impressive 155.5. It unfolded in the 55th over of Australia’s innings, when Cummins, who had been staging a mini rescue mission with a counter-attacking 28 off 18 balls, attempted one shot too many. The ball was a good-length delivery outside the off stump. Cummins shuffled to the leg side, trying to loft it over mid-on to keep the momentum going. But this time, he misjudged the elevation and timing. The ball didn’t get the lift he intended, struck low on the bat, and went straight into the safe hands of Kraigg Brathwaite at mid-on. But what followed next caught everyone’s attention.

As soon as the catch was taken, Seales turned to Cummins and pointed towards the dressing room, delivering a cold and unmistakable send-off. It wasn’t subtle. It was firm, direct, and laced with intent message from a young West Indies bowler to one of the game’s most respected modern captains.

Seales had already taken key wickets in the innings and was bowling with rhythm and venom. Cummins, meanwhile, had frustrated the hosts with a quickfire cameo, swinging the bat and momentarily lifting Australia from disaster. Dismissing him meant sealing the Australian inning, and Seales let him know exactly how important that moment was that later on Seales himself explained after the game.

“It was a bit of a send-off, not really meaning anything really. It was more a bit of frustration, he played a couple of good shots off me and I just showed him to the dressing room, there wasn’t really anything in it,” Seales was quoted as saying by the Codesports.com.au.

Relentless pace assault rocks Day 1 as West Indies stumble after Australia’s collapse

A gripping Day 1 in Bridgetown belonged entirely to the fast bowlers, as 14 wickets tumbled in under 77 overs. Australia, after winning the toss, were rattled by the fiery West Indies pace attack and folded for just 180 runs. Shamar Joseph (4/46) delivered thunderbolts upfront, including a peach to remove debutant Sam Konstas, while Jayden Seales ripped through the lower order, finishing with a superb 5/60. Travis Head’s fluent 59 and Cummins’ brisk 28 offered brief resistance, but the rest crumbled under sustained pressure. In reply, West Indies faltered early as Mitchell Starc dismissed both openers inside seven overs. Australia’s quicks continued their chokehold, with Cummins and Josh Hazlewood striking timely blows to leave the hosts reeling at 57/4 at stumps. Brandon King’s unbeaten 23 was the only bright spot, but with little batting to follow, the West Indies trail by 123 and stare at a first-innings deficit unless their middle-order rallies on Day 2.
