Rohit Sharma has recollected team India’s unbeaten winning streak during the 2024 T20 World Cup and showered praise on team’s “desperation” and “hunger” to go all the way in the tournament. The win ended India’s 13-year wait for an ICC title in Barbados. India defeated South Africa by seven runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. “Ek bhi match naa haarna aur ja ke World Cup jeetna ye bahut badi baat hai (Not losing a single match and then going on to win the World Cup is a huge achievement),” Rohit Sharma said at an event.“I think wo desperation jo sab players ke andar tha aur humare jo support team thi unme tha, sab logo ne ek saath milkar contribute kiya aur eventually jab hum World Cup jeete sabko pata hi hai kitna badhiya celebration hua jab hum Bombay aaye. (I think the desperation that was within all the players and our support staff, everyone contributed together, and eventually when we won the World Cup, everyone knows how incredible the celebrations were when we came back to Mumbai).”Rohit Sharma’s men etched history by becoming only the second Indian side to win a T20 World Cup — this time going unbeaten throughout the tournament. India played nine matches, winning eight while one was washed out.The campaign began with victories over Ireland, Pakistan, and co-hosts USA, before a washed-out group game against Canada in Florida. The team carried its momentum through the Super Eights and semi-finals, eventually sealing the title with a thrilling seven-run win against South Africa at Kensington Oval, Barbados.The flawless campaign was in stark contrast to India’s maiden T20 World Cup triumph in 2007, when the team had stumbled against New Zealand in the Super Six stage.South Africa was also unbeaten before the final, winning all eight matches but India came through in the final-over thriller to end as the only team a perfect record.
