Newcastle remain busy in the transfer market following the club-record signing of Nick Woltemade, with manager Eddie Howe confirming that the Magpies are pushing to bring in at least one more player before Monday’s 7pm transfer deadline.
While Newcastle are focused on potential additions, several exits could also be on the cards. Alexander Isak has reportedly expressed a desire to leave, attracting interest from Liverpool, while younger squad members are expected to depart on loan.
Howe, however, is not directly engaging with Isak over his situation and is concentrating on reinforcing the squad in the final days of the window.
Newcastle’s campaign has begun frustratingly without a settled striker. The Magpies have collected just two points from their opening three Premier League matches, including 0-0 draws at Aston Villa and Leeds United, and a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool at St James’ Park.
The absence of consistent attacking options has only intensified speculation around Isak, who has yet to feature this season.
On the striker’s situation, Howe stated: “I’ve got no communication, no update for you. We are still looking to actively recruit, but I don’t know if that has any relation at all to Alex’s situation.”
Looking ahead to the final 48 hours of the window, Howe added: “I will be on my phone probably 24/7. When you’re in my position, you’re not actually communicating with clubs or players yourself; you’re relying on others to get updates.
“I’d love to bring in one more player to give us the strength and depth we need. I don’t know what that player looks like, and I’m not going to give a position, but one more signing would be ideal for the squad.”
