The upcoming Asia Cup 2025 has undergone a significant timing revision, with 18 out of 19 matches now starting at a different time than originally planned due to the scorching temperatures expected in the United Arab Emirates. The Asian Cricket Council confirmed this major scheduling change to protect players from the harsh desert conditions during the September tournament.
When desert heat meets Asia Cup 2025 fever
The revised schedule addresses weather forecasts predicting temperatures soaring into the 40 degree celsius during September in the UAE. Cricket boards across participating nations requested the timing adjustment to protect players from heat-related risks including fatigue, dehydration, and potential injuries.
Under the new timing structure, all day-night fixtures across the tournament will now commence at 6:30 PM Gulf Standard Time, which translates to 8:00 PM Indian Standard Time, representing a 30-minute delay from the originally planned 6:00 PM local start times. However, one notable exception remains in the revised schedule – the UAE versus Oman encounter on September 15, which will continue as the tournament’s sole day match, beginning at 4:00 PM local time or 5:30 PM IST. The timing changes extend to even the most prestigious fixture of the tournament, with the final on September 28 also adopting the new 6:30 PM local time slot, ensuring consistency across all evening matches.
The tournament will span from September 9 to 28, with Dubai International Cricket Stadium hosting 11 matches including the final, while Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi will host eight matches. Broadcasters agreed to the timing changes after considering player welfare, ensuring that matches occur during cooler evening hours for enhanced playing conditions. Key fixtures under the new schedule include India‘s opener against UAE on September 10 at 8:00 PM IST, followed by the marquee India vs Pakistan clash on September 14 at the same time, both in Dubai.

India starts to prepare for the 2026 T20I World Cup
This Asia Cup represents more than just a regional championship—it serves as a crucial dress rehearsal for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Five of the eight participating teams will compete in next year’s World Cup, making this tournament particularly significant for India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag emphasized the tournament’s importance on Sony Sports Network, stating that “this Asia Cup can serve as a great preparation for our 2026 T20 World Cup. It’s an opportunity to see which new players should be given chances and who can be included in the squad“. India will defend their title under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, with Test captain Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain after his successful return to the T20I setup.
The Indian squad features a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, including top-ranked T20 batters Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, alongside bowling stalwarts Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. The tournament format features eight teams divided into two groups, with the top two from each advancing to the Super Four stage, culminating in the final showdown on September 28.
