The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, promises to be one of the most competitive editions yet. With Australia entering as defending champions, India enjoying home advantage, and England and South Africa poised to challenge, the tournament is expected to deliver high-quality cricket and potential upsets.

    Australia, the clear favourites

Seven-time champions Australia are widely considered the team to beat. Led by Alyssa Healy, the squad boasts a stacked batting lineup featuring Alyssa Healy, Beth Mooney, Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry, alongside a wealth of all-rounders who give them balance. Their recent series win in India has underlined their form and strengthened their tag as tournament favourites.

India eye maiden triumph at home

Hosts India have never lifted the Women’s World Cup but look primed for a breakthrough. With stalwarts like Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, along with young bowling star Kranti Goud, the side has quality across departments. Playing at home gives them an added edge, and their recent performances against top sides have boosted confidence.

England and South Africa among strong contenders

England, winners in 2017, remain perennial contenders. With Nat Sciver-Brunt leading a squad that includes Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Sophie Ecclestone and Heather Knight, their blend of youth and experience makes them dangerous opponents. South Africa, powered by Laura Wolvaardt, Suné Luus and Marizanne Kapp, have the firepower to topple any favourite, though the lack of a proven strike pacer could be a concern.

Challengers looking to upset the big guns

New Zealand enter the competition as reigning T20 World Cup winners, relying on the experience of Sophie Devine, Amelia Kerr and Suzie Bates, though inconsistent ODI form remains a hurdle. Sri Lanka, under Chamari Athapaththu, could benefit from playing some matches at home, while Bangladesh continue to grow as a competitive side with stars like Nahida Akter. Pakistan, led by Fatima Sana, remain underdogs but could spring surprises with stability and focus.

With eight teams – Australia, India, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan – vying for glory, the Women’s World Cup 2025 is shaping into a exciting tournament. Australia’s dominance, India’s hunger for a maiden crown, and the unpredictability of the challengers mean fans can expect drama at every stage.
