Perplexity, an artificial intelligence (AI) search tool company, has signed a multi-year license agreement with Getty Images.
This deal allows Perplexity to legally feature Getty’s photo content within its services.
The step is part of the company’s effort to build official content relationships, especially after facing criticism for its previous online sourcing practices.

Perplexity had used Getty’s photos without a public agreement in place. At the time, some media outlets questioned whether this was a case of copyright misuse.
The new partnership may serve to address those concerns by providing clear permission for image use and offering a more structured approach.
Alongside the announcement, Perplexity stated that images appearing in its search results will now include proper credit and links to the original image sources. This is meant to make image origins transparent for users and respect the rights of content creators.
Getty’s vice president of strategic development, Nick Unsworth, commented that the agreement supports the idea that proper consent and attribution improve AI products.
Perplexity’s head of content partnerships, Jessica Chan, stated that clarity and correct credit are essential when delivering information through AI. She added that their goal is to help people find visual answers while also showing where those visuals come from.
