Panjab University has postponed all examinations scheduled from November 18 to 20, as reported by PTI, in the wake of escalating student protests. The decision comes after students threatened to boycott exams until the long-delayed Senate poll schedule is officially announced. Officials have advised students to keep track of updates through the university’s official channels, with revised exam dates to be communicated in due course.In a statement released on Saturday, Punjab University (PU) Controller of Examinations Jagat Bhushan stated that the rescheduled exam dates will be announced in due course. Students have been urged to stay updated by regularly following the university’s official communication channels as reported by PTI.The protests, led by the Panjab University Bachao Morcha, stem from the university’s governance issues, including the delay in Senate elections for over a year. Although the Ministry of Education withdrew its October 28 notification proposing changes to the Senate and Syndicate, students have continued their agitation, demanding the restoration of democratic processes on campus. Meetings with the vice chancellor offered assurances that the poll schedule is awaiting approval from the chancellor, but the assurances have failed to end the protest, which now enjoys support from major political parties and local organizations.

The immediate trigger for the postponement is the threat of exam disruption due to ongoing student sit-ins near the VC office. With the protest escalating into a “university shutdown” call, the administration had little choice but to delay examinations to ensure safety and prevent chaos. The agitation initially began against the Centre’s attempt to restructure the university’s governing bodies but has now evolved into a broader fight for institutional autonomy.
