A prayer meet is expected to be held later this week in memory of veteran actor Dharmendra, who passed away on Monday. The legendary star, who would have turned 90 on December 8, died at his Mumbai residence after a prolonged illness.“A prayer meet will be held here but the location is yet to be finalised,” an insider told PTI.Dharmendra was cremated on Monday afternoon at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu in a private ceremony, in contrast to the public funerals of icons like Sridevi and Yash Chopra, who were accorded state honours.
Bollywood visits the Deol home
Throughout November 25, several members of the film fraternity were seen visiting the Deol residence to offer condolences. In the evening, Hrithik Roshan and his father, filmmaker-actor Rakesh Roshan, arrived to stand by the grieving family. Rakesh Roshan had worked with Dharmendra in the 1983 film Teesri Aankh, also starring Shatrughan Sinha.Earlier in the afternoon, Ajay Devgn was photographed entering the residence. Others who visited included filmmaker Farah Khan, Shatrughan Sinha and his wife Poonam Sinha, Varun Dhawan, Ananya Panday, Kajol, Jackky Bhagnani, Rakul Preet Singh, and director duo Abbas-Mastan.
Dharmendra had been on ventilator support recently
The actor, who would have turned 90 on December 8, had been put on ventilator support a few weeks ago after experiencing breathing difficulties. He was discharged shortly after and continued treatment at home, where he eventually passed away at the age of 89.Dharmendra is survived by his first wife Prakash Kaur, their children Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajeta and Vijayta; and his second wife Hema Malini and their daughters Esha and Ahana.
A six-decade legacy
Born Dharam Singh Deol in Punjab in 1935, Dharmendra featured in more than 300 films over six decades. Celebrated for his versatility across romance, comedy and action, he delivered some of Indian cinema’s most iconic performances in films such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, Anupama and Seeta Aur Geeta.
