With 2025 coming to an end, Google has revealed the global search trends for the year. The search engine giants has been busy rolling out its annual list of what people around the world searched for the most in 2025. Just like the previous years, this year’s list is also filled with a number of surprises.
In the list of top trending searches for sports teams, the cricket fans witnessed a huge surprise. The list contained the names of Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals ahead of all the other IPL teams. While both the teams are usually considered two of the least popular IPL teams because of their poor record in the tournament, they managed to outrank every other IPL franchise in global search list.
Both the teams feature in the top five most searched sports teams in 2025. The list is led by French football club Paris Saint-Germain followed by Benfica and Toronto Blue Jays. Punjab Kings are at the number four spot followed by Delhi Capitals.

Memorable campaign for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025:
One of the reasons behind Punjab Kings’ increased popularity in 2025 was their brilliant performance in the IPL. For the 2025 season, they completely overhauled their squad and it paid off. Under new captain Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings qualified for the IPL final for only the second time.
They also managed to progress ahead of the league stage for the first time since 2014 when they had finished runners-up. Unfortunately, Punjab Kings could not end the campaign on a winning note as they lost the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. For the next year’s IPL, Punjab Kings have retained their core squad and will be hoping to go all the way.
Delhi Capitals endure another forgettable outing:
Unlike Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals failed to impress in IPL 2025. They had a strong squad but could not qualify for the playoffs. With 7 wins from 14 matches, Delhi Capitals finished at the fifth spot.
Both Delhi and Punjab are yet to win the IPL and will be desperate to go all the way next season. Ahead of next year’s IPL, both the teams will have the opportunity to bolster their squad in the upcoming mini auction
