Who Else Besides Nazem Kadri Could be on the Move?

Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period joined Sirius XM NHL Network Radio on Wednesday with Steve Kouleas and Anthony Steward. He was asked about his report on the Calgary Flames and Nazem Kadri. While activity is picking up around Kadri, teams are also calling about other players.

NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabres, and the Calgary Flames

Steve Kouleas: “Joining us now in his usual Wednesday spot, Sirius XM Insider, Fourth Period NHL network. Dave Pagnotta is back. Dave, I see something maybe happening in Dallas and Calgary that you reported on earlier. What can you tell our listeners?”

Dave Pagnotta: “Well, truly, there has been activity picking up around the Calgary Flames this week, and it hovered around (Nazem) Kadri. It’s hovered around (Blake) Coleman.

There were reports this week that teams are kicking the tires again. Ottawa, I think Bruce Garrioch had this last night (Tuesday night) that the Senators are kicking the tires again on MacKenzie Weegar. That’s something they’ve been poking around on before, going back to last season as well. And Ryan Lomberg‘s name is out there.

NHL Rumors: Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, and J.T. Miller

Teams have inquired about white Zach Whitecloud after they got him from Vegas in the Rasmus Andersson trade. There’s a lot of activity surrounding the Calgary Flames.

And Dallas is one team that has had interest in a number of Flames. They had an interest in Andersson before. They’ve had interest in Coleman, who’s a local product, and there’s also interest in Nazem Kadri. So we’ll see kind of where this goes.

I don’t know if the discussion is trying to get something done by the Olympic Freeze on February 4, or if this will carry out after the freeze lifts at the end of February, 12 days before the trade deadline. But it certainly sounds like Dallas and Calgary have had those conversations, and Kadri is certainly a point of interest for Dallas.”

NHLRumors.com Note: The Calgary Flames have been a team many have circled as a seller. It started last year with the Nazem Kadri talk he subdued, but they have picked up again. Many teams want Kadri, given his playoff track record as a winner, and not only that, they know how flexible he can be in the lineup. You need him to be a second-line center; he can do that. If a team needs him to be a third-line center, he can be that.

NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, and Why Trade Now

But the Flames are still holding ground, as reported in the summer, and waiting for an offer they can’t refuse. That offer might be closing in on happening, at least by the trade deadline. But Kadri isn’t the only piece. Teams want Blake Coleman, Ryan Lomberg, Zach Whitecloud, and MacKenzie Weegar. But GM Craig Conroy is holding firm on his prices. Kadri is open to a trade, but Coleman would like to stay. If Conroy gets his yes offers, then all these players are gone as the rebuild is on in Calgary
