The India vs Pakistan 2026 T20 World Cup match is just a day away. Ahead of the match, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir took a dig at India’s best T20I batter Abhishek Sharma. The former batter previously called the Southpaw a slogger, and he was criticised on social media for the same.
Yet again replying to his criticism, Mohammad Amir believes Abhishek Sharma is a slogger, as he has not been tested in conditions like South Africa, New Zealand, and England. Abhishek Sharma has a strike rate of 195 while opening the batting for India. He has been striking boundaries every three balls and has scored the most runs for India since his debut in 2024.
Mohammad Amir takes a serious dig at Abhishek Sharma
Mohammad Amir, in the show called Hasna Mana Hain, said, “He is a slogger. He is a slogger — okay, in my opinion. Simple. The one who doesn’t know how to stop the ball in the line — what will I call him? A proper batsman controls the line. He comes and swings, it hits him — it’s okay. He is having a good time.”

Muhammad Amir remains firm on his statement about Abhishek Sharma.
“He’s just a slogger, simple as that. You’re playing on small grounds and flat wickets. You haven’t really been tested yet.” pic.twitter.com/rEfeYsd8hn

“The day he comes in the line and shows that he can really play, yes, he can tackle the bowler. He can play on the short boundaries of a flat wicket, but he hasn’t even been tested yet.”
Amir further added, “Let him go to South Africa, New Zealand, or England, where the ball swings. If he performs there, I’ll be the first one to say he is a proper batsman. He is playing well now, I’ll admit that — but he will have to play a few more matches to be called a proper batsman.”
Ahmed Shehzad defends Mohammad Amir
Ahmed Shehzad, coming to the rescue of Mohammad Amir, said, “Yesterday we were talking about opinions. Every person has their own opinion, and everybody needs to respect each other’s opinion. You might not like me; Amir might like me. Rashid might not like me — it’s the opposite. All these things are a part of life.”
“It’s not about debating whether someone is a big international bowler. Let’s debate — that’s fine. But abusing someone is not right.”
Mohammad Amir brings in a Virat Kohli reference
The broadcaster said, “He is the same Amir who is a genuine fan of Virat Kohli.” Amir said, “I still believe Virat Kohli is the best batsman of this generation. But… I still believe Abhishek Sharma is a slogger. Simple.”
Abhishek Sharma has been struggling with a stomach issue, and his participation against Pakistan has been in doubt. He has travelled to Sri Lanka with the team, as his fitness will be decided on the final training session on Saturday evening. The left-handed opener did not have the best of starts to his World Cup campaign after being out on a duck.
Abhishek has a strike of nearly 190 against the Men in Green in the three matches he played against them, scoring one fifty. He has the experience of handling the Pakistan bowlers and will look to get ready ahead of the important clash.
