Kohli now has 2,646* international runs on English soil across all three formats to his name, while Dravid had finished his career with 2,645 runs in England. Another Indian legend, Sachin Tendulkar, slipped to the third spot on the elite list with 2,626 international runs in England. Virat Kohli breaks Ricky Ponting’s massive record
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has added another big achievement to his legendary career. During the second ODI against England, Kohli went past Australia great Ricky Ponting to become the player with the fifth-most appearances in international cricket.
Kohli has now played 561 international matches, moving ahead of Ponting, who finished his career with 560 matches. This is another major milestone for the former Indian captain, who has been one of the world’s most consistent batters since making his international debut in 2008.
Only four cricket legends are now ahead of Kohli on the all-time list. Sachin Tendulkar holds the top spot with 664 international matches, followed by Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene (652), Kumar Sangakkara (594), and Sanath Jayasuriya (586).
Kohli now has 28,220* international runs to his name, including 85 centuries, making him one of the greatest batters the game has ever seen. However, he is now only active in ODI cricket, having retired from Test cricket in 2025 and T20I cricket in 2024. Rohit and Kohli reached this landmark while batting together in their 171st international innings. They have now added 8,028 runs as a pair at an impressive average of 48.95 and proved why they are one of India’s most successful batting combinations.
With this achievement, Rohit and Kohli have become only the third Indian pair to score more than 8,000 partnership runs in international cricket. The top record is still held by legendary duo Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, who scored 12,400 runs together at the highest level.
Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are second on the list with 11,037 partnership runs. The Rohit-Kohli pair has also built 27 half-century partnerships and 26 century stands for India across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, making them one of the finest batting partnerships in Indian cricket history.
