Turkish top-tier club Trabzonspor say they have begun transfer negotiations with Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah.
The 34-year-old is a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.
“Negotiations have been launched to transfer professional footballer Mohamed Salah, who is in a free status, to our club,” the club said in a statement.
Salah scored 257 goals for Liverpool, trailing only Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285) on the Reds’ all-time list.
He won nine trophies in his time with Liverpool, including two Premier League titles and one Champions League crown.
He is due to land in Istanbul on Wednesday afternoon.
“The player is scheduled to reach Trabzon later that evening,” the club said.
“The time and other details regarding the welcoming reception in Trabzon will be shared with the public during the day via our club’s official communication channels.”
Across the 2025-26 campaign, relations between Salah and then head coach Arne Slot collapsed with Salah publicly criticising the team’s playing style following a 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa, calling for a return to the “heavy metal attacking” football that made Liverpool so feared under Jurgen Klopp.
He was expected to move to the Saudi league but now looks set to stay in European football.
Trabzonspor finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season and won the Turkish Cup. They will play in Europa League qualifying later this month.
