Where would be the best landing spot for free agent forward Patrik Laine?
Daily Faceoff: Mike Rupp on the DFO Rundown with Jason Gregor on who could be a fit for UFA forward Patrik Laine.
Rupp: “You know, Patrik Laine, on the other hand, is one that, I’ve seen some of the names that have been linked to him. I mean, I don’t know, I mean, I think for myself, like a bad power play team. Obviously, Patrik Laine is a power play specialist.
Like the New York Islanders, they stunk on the power play. They have for a few years. They could really use a guy like that. Now the problem is, what’s he do five (on five) for you? I don’t know. That’s up to Patrik Laine what he’s willing to put forth. Philadelphia is another team.
2026-27 Colorado Avalanche Season Preview
I think if I’m Patrick Laine’s camp, the best move to get his career back going to where he wants to, it to be is, I would just honestly, man, I would go to Tampa. I go to Tampa. I get whatever contract they can do to fit you in. And go down there and be on the other side of Nikita Kucherov and just be burying goals. And maybe that could spill over to five-on-five plays. Show a rededication to the game and other areas of the game. Sign a one-year deal. Go down there and be on a good team that you don’t have to be ‘the man.’ I think that would be the best place to get his con, or get his career, sorry, back on track.
But other than that, just power-play teams I would look for, for him.
…
Gregor: “Laine, I love your idea about, because if you, the Philadelphia Flyers being the worst power play team for years. Man, like the power play stinks, and it hasn’t, it really has shown no signs of much improvement. I know if you look at, you know what, what Laine can’t really do on five-on-five, it’s a valid concern.”
…
“But Laine for the Islanders and the Flyers, I don’t think there’s two teams in the league who could use him more just as a power play specialist? I get the five-on-five and all that other stuff, but I’m sorry, what you’ve been doing does not work.
NHL Rumors: When Will Arber Xhekaj and Zach Bolduc Sign New Deals in Montreal?
And when he went to Montreal and they had Caulfield and they had Suzuki and they had all these other guys, and Lion A still went in there, and when he got on the power play, he has like a bomb that’s almost unstoppable. So I don’t under, like I would, I would strongly consider if I was those two teams, to look for a power-play specialist, which is what Laine is right now.
