Claudia Schiffer, Delphine Arnault and Other Fashion Industry Elite Gather for Dior PR Executive Mathilde Favier’s Paris Funeral

Favier and her partner Nicolas Altmayer were killed in a car accident in France, Dior shared in a statement

Family, friends and members of the fashion industry gathered on Monday, Aug. 31, to attend the funeral of Dior’s public relations director Mathilde Favier in Paris.

Favier, 57, and her partner Nicolas Altmayer, 61, were killed in a car accident in France on Monday, Aug. 17.

The funeral was held at Eglise Saint-Sulpice and drew guests such as supermodel Claudia Schiffer, fashion designer Gilles Dufour, chairperson and CEO of Christian Dior Couture Delphine Arnault and First Lady of France Brigitte Macron. Favier’s daughter, Héloïse, was also photographed attending the service.

In a photo shared to Instagram showing Héloïse and other loved ones at the funeral, Vera Wang honored Favier with a heartfelt caption.

“DIGNIFIED and HEARTBREAKING. May MATHILDE FAVIER truly RIP. 💔🙏🪽 SHE TOUCHED SO MANY LIVES….and prayers for her family first and foremost,” the designer wrote.

According to news reports, Favier and Altmayer, died in a car crash in France on Monday, Aug. 17. French outlet Le Monde reported that the couple’s vehicle “collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction while they were overtaking another vehicle,” per Niort deputy prosecutor Nicolas Leclainche.

Per Variety, an investigation for involuntary manslaughter has been opened.

Dior shared the news of Favier’s death on Instagram on Tuesday, Aug. 18, writing, “Dior is deeply saddened to announce the accidental death of Mathilde Favier. In her role as Director of Public Relations, Mathilde Favier made an incredible contribution to the reputation of Christian Dior Couture through her commitment and elegance.”

The statement continued, “She was an exceptional woman whose communicative joy, talent and loyalty were exemplary.”

Delphine Arnault, chairperson and CEO of Christian Dior Couture, shared, “Mathilde loved life with a passion. With the passing of Mathilde, Dior is losing an incredible professional, and I have lost a loyal friend. Her optimism and courage commanded admiration. We will sorely miss her smile and her talent. I feel deeply saddened today; my thoughts are very much with her children, her mother, her sisters, her family, her many friends and her team she loved so much.”

Dior’s creative director Jonathan Anderson also shared a tribute to Favier.

“I am heartbroken by Mathilde Favier’s passing,” Anderson said in a statement shared on Dior’s Instagram. “We all owe so much to her work and dedication. She brought such warmth, energy and was the most positive and uplifting person I have ever met. Mathilde was the very embodiment of elegance and in many ways, the spirit of Couture itself.”

On his own Instagram account, Anderson shared a black-and-white photo of Favier in a Stories post.

“We have lost the happiest, kindest and most generous person,” he wrote over the image. “You will be so deeply missed. My thought are with your whole family. Love Jonathan.”

Favier joined Dior in 2011 and worked closely with many of the fashion house’s high-profile ambassadors and clients, including Natalie Portman, Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence. She was the mother of two, daughter Héloïse, 28, and son Carlo, 25, whom she shared with former husband, billionaire finance executive Robert Agostinelli.

Carlo shared a heartfelt tribute to his mother on Aug. 18 on Instagram, which included a handful of photos of them together. He began his lengthy Instagram caption with, “My heart aches and my brain is foggy. None of this makes sense, and I struggle to understand how any of it ever will.”
